Julie Ann (Nelson) Childs, 37, of Calumet, died Friday, July 27, 2007, at the Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital in Grand Rapids. She was born on February 3, 1970 to Kermit and Denise Nelson in Virginia. In 1988, she graduated from Hibbing High School and then attended Hibbing Community College both in Hibbing. She was united in marriage on May 1, 1993, to Joseph Childs in Grand Rapids.

Julie managed both the Hibbing and Grand Rapids Payless Shoes stores until 1995 when she became the city clerk of Calumet. She was a member of the First Church of God where she served as Sunday School secretary, youth leader and with the kitchen committee. She was a member and past president of the P.T.C. in Marble, a member of the League of Minnesota Small Cities and the Greenway Recreation Board.

Julie loved bowling, the Minnesota Twins and the Vikings. She was an avid fan of her children, Zach and Sarah. She was a loving wife and mother with a strong spirit who was always involved with her children and all of their endeavors.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph; one son, Zachary, at home; one daughter, Sarah, at home; one sister, Joey Lampi of Hibbing; parents, Kermit (Char) Nelson of Hibbing and Denise (Loren) Forry of Merkel, Texas; maternal grandmother, Dorene (Elmer 60, 1985) Millbridge of Rockport, Texas; nieces, Lindsey and Leah; and nephews, Lucas and Isaac.

Funeral: Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, at the First Church of God in Grand Rapids. The Rev. Oscar Marth will officiate.

Visitation: Will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, and for one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service on Wednesday at the First Church of God in Grand Rapids.

Burial: Will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Coleraine. Arrangements are by Rowe Funeral Home in Grand Rapids.
